Terms of Use
Haruto: Learn Japanese · Last updated 18 October 2026
These terms apply to the Haruto: Learn Japanese app ("Haruto", "the app"), published by TDevelopers ("we", "us"). By using the app you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.
1. What Haruto is
Haruto teaches beginner Japanese through a daily story, chats with Haruto, his voice, and review tools. Haruto is a fictional character, not a real person.
2. AI-generated content
- Haruto's chat replies, voice, the name written in katakana and translations of lessons into your language are generated by AI (Google Gemini).
- AI can make mistakes in Japanese, in translations or in facts. Haruto is a learning companion, not a certified course or a substitute for a teacher, and not a source of medical, legal, financial or other professional advice.
- Please don't share sensitive personal information (such as passwords, ID or bank numbers, or health details) in chat.
- If one of Haruto's replies is offensive, harmful or wrong, tap the flag under it to report it. We review reports and use them to improve his replies.
3. Who can use Haruto
You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, use Haruto with a parent's or guardian's permission.
4. Using Haruto fairly
Please don't use the app to break the law, harass anyone, or create sexual, hateful or violent content; don't try to get around daily limits, overload or attack our servers, automate the app, or copy, resell or reverse-engineer it. We may limit or stop access for anyone who does.
5. Free plan and Haruto Premium
- Free: the first story days and a daily number of chats with Haruto (currently 10 a day).
- Premium adds all story scenes, his voice in chat, the Memory Book, everyday phrases and many more daily chats (fair use, currently up to 150 a day). Plans and prices are shown in the app before you buy and can vary by country.
- Billing. Premium is sold as an auto-renewing subscription, yearly or monthly, through Google Play or the App Store, and charged to that account. It renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. You're charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- Free trial. If a plan includes a free trial, the subscription starts charging when the trial ends unless you cancel before then. We send a reminder two days before. Any unused part of a trial ends when you buy a subscription.
- Special offers, such as a discounted yearly price, apply only as described when offered. A discounted price stays the same for as long as that subscription continues.
- Cancelling and refunds. Manage or cancel your subscription in your Google Play or App Store account settings (Haruto's Settings links there). Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Premium until the end of the paid period. Refunds are handled by Google Play or Apple under their policies.
- Price changes follow Google Play's and Apple's rules, including notice to you before a higher price applies.
6. Your content
Messages you write stay yours. You allow us to process them, including sending them to our AI provider, only to run the app, as the Privacy Policy describes.
7. Our content
The app, its story, characters (including Haruto), art, audio and lessons belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable, non-commercial licence to use them in the app.
8. Changes and availability
We keep improving Haruto and may change, add or remove features. We'll tell you in the app about significant changes to these terms. We try to keep the app available but can't promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free.
9. Disclaimer and liability
The app is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we give no warranties beyond those you can't waive, and we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for Premium in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be excluded.
10. Google Play and the App Store
Google and Apple are not parties to these terms and aren't responsible for the app or its content. If you downloaded Haruto from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies, and Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms as third-party beneficiaries.
11. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, without affecting consumer protection rights you have where you live.
